BP8_2010043_Web 2.0 Tool

For this week web 2.0 tool, I was looking for something different from the regular educational websites that are available in great numbers on the net. After a little searching, I came across a very interesting site called Kerpoof Art Studio. Keerpoof is created to integrate the use of technology in the classroom. I like this site because it allows the students to use their creative side rather than just going to questions and answers, and it is free. Currently children can go on the site without a password, although they can become a member to gain full access. As a kindergarten teacher I had tried to allow my students to use a little bit more creativity in their work. Rather than just drawing a picture to go with the sentences they have come up with now they can create full stories from the site a share it with their peers. The outcome has been amazing; I’m able to get more out of their writing (sentences building), and their abilities to tell a story.
It is easy to navigate through the site, and there is a lot of different activities to do such as drawing, making movies, creating stories with pictures, etc. there is a dimension of social networking on the site also, which allow for exchange of ideas between the kids. It is a well little known fact that children learn better from each other and the creator of the site recognized that fact and implemented the social network as a tool to give and receive feedback from their peers on their works.
This type of site should be incorporated in all English, literature, and any classroom that requires creativity.

Collaboration is a process where two or more people or organizations work together on an assignment to achieve a common final product. Online collaboration tools are changing the way people conduct business, and study in the Twentieth-first Century without having to leave their home or place of work.
One of those collaborative tools that I have found to be very effective is TeamWork Live. TeamWork Live is an intuitive, secure, web-based developed to allow users to work on projects in collaboration with one another. TeamWork Live helps team/groups run their projects more efficiently, increase collaboration and accountability among team member.
Being a student in an online program requires me to work on projects with other students all over the country, and finding a place where we could all talk and review our project in a live format where we can edit the work. We had try several other tools that allowed us to either talk or review the work, but was never able to fully collaborate in one session. We always had to use different tools such as email, text messages, and phone calls, to submit our individual portion of the project, and then wait for an answer. It was really cumbersome to get the job done.
TeamWork Live incorporates viewing, and talking tools that facilitates the participants or group members to make corrections to the project while getting live feedback from the rest of the group. This minimizes the amount of time require to complete the assignment.
The only down side to the site is the access fee.

BP4_2010041_DiscoveringWeb2.0Tool

Hello all,

Today I want to talk about gameclassroom. Gameclassroom is a web 2.0 learning tool for kindergarten through 6th grade students. The site is dedicated at improving the math and language skills of the students through different interactive and progressive games. Each grade level has its own skill building activities based on Houghton Mifflin Publishing curriculum.
The site is very easy to follow; I took a walk through to ensure that students would not get frustrated trying to navigate through it.
When you first visit the site at http://www.gameclassroom.com, all the grade levels are at the top of the page for easy access. Below that, there is a myriad of web links along with the featured games and newsletters. Once you click on the link for one of the grades, a new page opens up with the math section on side and the language Art portion on the other, and the topics covered for each subject is directly listed under the subject. Furthermore, each topic is presented with a sample problem and several activities related to the topic. This format makes it easy for the students to find what the looking unlike some other site that I have visited which were somewhat confusing in getting where I wanted to go.
I encourage everyone to that teaches or have a child in grades K to 6th to take a look at this site and take advantage of this free tool to enhance the learning outcome of our kids. This site is totally awesome and the best part of it, it is totally free.

I know you will like gameclassroom, your education site for the future once you visit it. So go ahead, visit the site and let the kids learn while playing the games they already love.

BP3_2010041_SeetingUpGoogleReader

As part of my Personal learning Environment (PLE) that I have set-up on google.com, I have to use the Google reader as one of the requirement for the PLE. Google reader is a web 2.0 tool that serves as an aggregator that compile RSS (Real Simple Syndication) feeds from different web sites/pages, blogs, etc in one location for easy access. A feed can be anything from a simple headline to the entire updated entry, depending on the settings specified at the Web site (Karch).
For professional purposes, I have Chosen five RSS feeds, education, e-learning, higher education, kids, and RPG, that I think are relevant for my personal advancement, and to create a better learning environment for my current and future students. The first three feeds are all education related. They cover all subjects in the field of education at level, including news from the Education Department, colleges, universities, and public schools around the country. The last two feeds, kids, and RPG deal with anything kids related, and role-playing games in education respectively. I thought they were good feeds to follow because I’m in a field that deals with children, getting the latest news and information about them should allow me to better interact with them. I also wanted to stay up to date with the games that students are playing on a daily basis. This will allow me to use those games as learning tools in the classroom.
In conclusion, I intend to use the Google Reader as my information hub and as a branch of learning to improve my students and myself.

BP2_2010041_EducationalUsesforBlogs.

Hello and welcome back to my blog.

Today I want to talk about how teachers can use blogs to promote learning in the educational setting. First, let’s define what a blog is. According to Stephen Downes of halfanhour.blogspot.com, "a blog is a personal website that contains content organized like a journal or a diary. Each entry is dated, and the entries are displayed on the web page in reverse chronological order, so that the most recent entry is posted at the top. This arrangement allows readers to see the most recent posts first."
Blogs can be used in many in the classroom; to me the most beneficial use of blogs is to improve the writing and reading skills of the students both in and outside the classroom. In general people tend to put their best foot forward when they know that their works are going to be seen by a multitude of individuals. The same is true for our students; knowing that their peers and even their parents have access to their work can bring out the best in them.
Blogs can also be used as a collaborative tool to get students engage in what is being discussed in the classroom. Students can get comments from peers and teacher on how to better their works. To me, the best aspect in using blogs as a collaborative tool, they gives everyone an equal chance to make their voice heard. To often, we pass on a student’s comments because we are press for time. With blogs they can comment on the subject and get further input from the teacher at a later time.
